Rose McGee is a pillar in the community. Known for her story telling and ability to connect communities, Rose befriends most everyone she meets. She is the widow of former head of the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office William McGee. Rose has been in her home in Golden Valley, MN for nearly 20 years. However, after being laid off, she fell behind on her mortgage. She dutifully contacted her lender CitiMortgage and told them she was in need of a loan modification. CitiMortgage led her to believe they were going to adjust her mortgage. At the same time they told her they were processing her paperwork, they proceeded to foreclose on her. This process is commonly known as dual tracking.
Rose plans to stay in her home until CitiMortgage negotiates justly and offers her a fair modification of her loan.
Occupy Homes is standing with Rose in her efforts. She has already received support from other organizations fighting foreclosure, including Northside Community Redevelopment Coalition (NCRC) and Jewish Community Action. There have been several rallies of support as well as protests at CitiFinancial affiliates in the Twin Cities.
